HDMI convertors.

Using various items that use a HDMI output, Blue-Ray and other later model DVD players and cable boxes I have to use a HDMI to analogue convertor on my old CRT sets. They work really well for the purpose.
They are designed to either be used with just an HDMI input and L-R audio and Video output. It also has a micro USB connector for a voltage source, if needed.
Here's an observation! Some of the newer equipment requires just an HDMI input and not an external voltage source. You have to try it both ways, first with no source and if no results, then with the external voltage source.

I have a HDMI converter myself, great for using older tvs. Mine does require a external power source from micro USB

I also have a HDMI convertor that has component video outputs.
I use it with the Color Stream inputs on the Toshiba CRT set, I normally use.
That unit takes an external power supply. I bought the thing, not knowing what it would do. It was brand new in the box!

What particular converter(s) are you using?

Also what do they do to the aspect ratio when connected to an old 4:3 TV?

I have found that many of the converters will horizontally-squeeze a 16:9 source to fit on a 4:3 screen, and have gone the route of utilizing a scan converter which gives me control over the aspect ratio on the TV, depending on that of the source.

Mine has a toggle switch to change aspect ratios, pretty handy :thmbsp:

What's the make and model?

2 Attachment(s)
Mine has the converter built-in. Its a Samsung BDD-5250. It also has a built in RJ45 connector in case you want to stream the DVD. It was a roadside find.
I frequently see those players with ONLY an HDMI connector in the free public electronics recycle bins.
