50" G.E. portable "broken"
 

Came across this on FB. What are the chances of finding a good picture tube front cabinet trim part ? Not sure if the "scratch' in the picture tube is permanent or not. Might be able to bang the dents out of the cabinet. Ad says it was found in a bush. Possibly thrown from a car ? Wants $15 cdn.

That set isn't that common of a model. It has a rare CRT, that is impossible to find good. According to what I read, they couldn't rebuild it.

Someone from church gave me the tan and cream version of that TV, it dates to about 1957, its a 9" set not a 50" set, the model number is 9T001 and it came in various 2-tone color scheme which was typical of the 1950s. I ended up selling it to a local guy who was involved in one of the local TV stations and he was going to use it as a decor item in his mancave in his basement which he has set up as a museum of sorts to old TV and broadcast related items.

I wasn't ever able to get it going because it had so many strange issues with it including little to no HV, Vertical Fold-over at the top that wouldn't go away even with new capacitors, horizontal issues, audio issues, and other strange issues that I couldn't repair.

Thanks guys, I'll stay clear of it. Have enough junk kicking around as is. I meant to post 50's G.E. not 50", I couldn't seem to edit the title.

Looks the same as a Hotpoint I seen on the usual "auction site" last week.
If that little set was local to me and 15 bucks I'd talk the seller down to $10 for it and make another screen mask out of fiberglass.

If it was thrown from a car you will need to replace much more than that!

I wouldn't doubt it. The crt doesnt look necked. I'd still snag it for the price.

That set is DOA for sure. One can only pull parts off it and toss the rest. These beautiful compact sets are enough trouble to get working acceptably when found in good condition. The CRT's are they're biggest issue. They're rare, never bright from new, and even worse as they age. I was fortunate enough to nab a good one from a friend that displays a watchable pic with the lights turned low.

The reason this CRT was not rebuilt was probably due to its unusual electron gun design. Second anode voltage came in via a pin at the base of the CRT instead of the usual connection on the side of the bulb.

This TV also had some very unique tubes.

The tube is made of blown glass like a 7JP4 for light weight.
I bought some spare tubes for my 9T001 for $1.00 each from ESRC. :thmbsp:
