need help servicing Trinitron KV-1214

Hi there -

I just acquired a Sony Trinitron KV-1214. It is in great condition (at least on the outside), powers on no problem, and sound is great. Picture is not that great: white horizontal scan lines, out of focus, and a little vertical bowing on one side (see attached picture). I am searching for a vintage TV repair shop near Asheville NC or anywhere in western North Carolina to get it tuned up and any components replaced if needed as this is outside of my skillset, but I am learning it's hard to find a TV repair shop these days that works on old CRT TVs! Any recommendations or referrals would really be appreciated.

Thanks,
JB

Have you tried adjusting the screen (scrn) control on the back of the set? :scratch2:

Without going into the set and taking readings, you wont get very far, ALL 3 , G2 ,G1 and focus are driven from the 540v boost (ref 4 SAMs) from the flyback, if that is wrong, it will mess the screen pretty much like you are seeing.

There is also a 47uf cap in the screen circuit that may be bad.

The entire boost path from the FBT to the CRT must be checked.

It was very easy to find a copy of the sams for the set.

Thanks. My question was if anyone knows of a vintage TV repair shop anywhere near western North Carolina, as opening the set and servicing it and replacing components is outside of my skillset.

Wow, ironically I’m currently working on the exact same set. Mine had differences issues but replacing the electrolytic capacitors has helped with some of the issues. It sure is a beautiful television. Good luck.

The bowing ( pincushioning ) is easy. Its a small cap off the pin amp control.
Video problem usually cap off the 200 volt for the CRT drivers OR
an open resistor in the G-2 divider.
All 3 were VERY common problems.
