Scored a Dumont Manchurian.
 

So I went to an audio hoarder today to grab some mundane late 40s-early 60 table sets (including CTC-10 I was informed about the day before going).
I was told about the dumont when I arrived and at the end after failing to figure out how to get inside to test the CRT I made a rediculously low offer not knowing CRT condition and they accepted...
Given me and 2 people could barely get it in my suburban I don't look forward to unloading it, and I have no clue where I'm going to put it, but given I never thought I'd be in a position to buy one let alone so affordably I couldn't pass it up.

Looks like it's in nice shape too. What year is it, 1949 50?

1948/49 apparently. I thought it was a little earlier. Uses a 20" all glass 20BP4 picture tube and weighs 350 lbs!?!

1948...It's 20" screen was the biggest direct view screen that year.

I'm both looking forward to and dreading unloading that 350lb monster later today.
Yesterday I noticed an 80s balun on the antenna terminals so this may already be recaped.

From what I gather it's basically a RA-105 with a beefed up power supply/horizontal output chassis to accommodate the 20" CRT. I'd have to guess it came out after the 105's. It's a cool piece, but I don't think I could live in the same space with that cabinet.

Looking at the link Bob posted and I can see why it's 350 pounds. That chassis is massive. Someone must have laid out some serious cash back then.

Unloading it wasn't too bad yesterday except for the wheels making it want to roll away while tipping it up.
Got the back off yesterday and found a brightener. Didn't get a chance to test it before I started having cold symptoms...Today it's supposed to be 3f as a high temperature so it's probably going to stay untouched in the garage today.

It looks mint. The original manual, paperwork and legs are in the back. The 21CYP22 woke up after about 15 minutes on the tester. That set had been hidden in an alcove in a wall with something that had sat in front of it for many years. They had forgotten about it for a long time.

Good news CRT seems to be good.
I know why the CRT had a brightener. There's a short.... I'm not sure where since it didn't register on HK or G1 shorts scale on my tester, but without the brightener the meter pegged on cutoff and emissions (WHICH ISN'T RIGHT), but tested with normal cutoff behavior and good emissions with the brightener in series....With the brightener in series I got my DMM on the heater pins of the base and dialed around my meter till I got 6.3V and that's where I took my emissions reading. This should be repairable without CRT swaps.
