ARCI 2022 Radiofest / Ekco 267/I
 

I braved the heat and attended this year's ARCI Radiofest in Northwest IL. I ran into forum members Electronic M (Tom) and drh4863 (Doug) plus a few fest regulars. Also was recognized by a few folks from my YouTube channnel

I planned on going just to socialize and record some video, but ended up bring home some unexpected items. It's dangerous to be near the donation area when it all goes up for free :D

Out f the donation area I snagged:
Heathkit signal tracer model T-2,
Delmonico (JVC) portable TV,
Fairbanks Morris radio chassis and speaker from a custom install
Cornell Dubilier Capacitor Analyzer (no case)
RCA Radiola 60 Superhet with mostly globe tubes
General Electric TV Service course

Out of the swapfest I couldn't pass up on a cheap 1955 Ekco TC267/I British TV. 405 scan lines and runs on AC/DC 200-250 volts.

The cabinet needs a lot of help, but it's a very basic design. A few veneer patches, strip, brown tinted lacquer, clear coat, rub it out. Piece of cake :)

It's my first British or European set. Assuming I can get it running, I'll need a custom converter box to generate a compatible signal source.

It has a necked CRT unfortunately, but it's a very common 17" and 90 degrees. So, I'm thinking I can modify it to us a US CRT. A bigger issue might be the missing knob(s).

Glad you saved that ECKO and not me. I was tempted, but needed it like an interesting new hole in my head.

There's a UK TV collectors forum out there that Dieseljeep was telling me about. I bet the chaps there would have service literature for it.

As it mentions there change any brown tubular

A bigger problem will be the plastic grill infront of the speaker.
I should decide for an original cloth with approx. same/closeby same style.
You need an Aurora 405-lines converter, hope they are still/again available:

Or ask in the british forum.

There is a way to generate 405 lines pictures with the help of a Linux-based computer.
But then you still need a RF-converter.
Ask for a schematic to build one there.

I'm guilty of hanging around the donation table at the swaps, picking up items that I really don't need, but I get a kick out of the early Heathkits.
They sure went out of their way to design an item to use war surplus tubes and parts. They even had their power transformers wound with a 12volt secondary to use the common tubes found on the surplus market. They used the 12A6 for several years. :D

That's quite a haul! We don't have any events like that in Europe, I'm jealous!
