February Online Meeting of the Early Television Museum Community

Saturday, February 25 at 8 PM EST

Our February Meeting will feature four segments: first, Steve McVoy will update news of the Early Television Foundation, followed by a look at the Dynatron Ether Sovereign in the museum's collection. Then, several respected experts in the field of vintage television restoration will participate in a panel discussion about the various philosophical and technical approaches to diagnosing and servicing a vintage television receiver. Chuck Azzalina, Bob Andersen and Dan Jones will discuss their various and occasionally differing philosophies about dealing with recalcitrant TVs (and occasionally also with customers.) Join us for what promises to be a fascinating, informative and freewheeling look at this aspect of the vintage television collecting world. Finally, we will have an open topic discussion. Feel free to introduce any topic you are interested in.

Sheeesh. Why are the sponsors of this Early Television Foundation so interested in getting the online meetings going again? Crying out loud, these things were put off indefinitely due to the coronavirus, but that shouldn't stop them any longer, now that we have vaccines against the virus. Having online meetings during the height of the virus may have been necessary, if not mandatory, to prevent the spread of it, but to have them replace in-person meetings at this late date is, IMHO, too much. I can understand how some people may be scared almost to death of getting the virus, even now, three years after the thing was dicovered and with vaccines against it now available (I have a good friend who, with his family, is still staying home, not going anywhere unless absolutely necessary, out of fear of catching the virus) but for crying out loud, putting off in-person meetings of the ETF (or anything else) out of fear is far, far too much.

Jeff, there never were monthly in-person meetings, so I don't know what you're complaining about. The yearly convention is being held in person as usual, and there have been fall swap meets as well, so the monthly on-line meetings are a fun bonus.

By the way, are you a dues-paying member?

I took part in a panel along with Dan Jones and Chuck Azzalina. We discussed TV restoration techniques and what it is like to have it as a side business. It has generated a lot of interest and we are planning on doing follow up discussions.
