Philips VR 540 tape winders
 

I have a Philips VR 540 VCR and sometimes it chews up the tapes. Other times it works fine. What could it be?

Take the top off and run it till it chews a tape while you're watching it and see HOW it chews it up and that will point you towards the part that's bad.
