Philco 48-482 radio with table

:thmbsp:Posting this model due to its size and furniture that came with it. This just came from a relative who said it resided in the same house and exact spot, since new until a few years ago. Every time it seems a different higher-end Philco shows up locally, it's in fine condition and rarely from a basement or outbuilding.

Broadcast and shortwave were pretty standard through the 40's radios and most all had built-in antenna loops, with consoles able to hide larger loops and thus, performing better than smaller models.

Once the present FM band was established after the former 42-50 mc band was restricted by the FCC, radios were often found with this new band. Some worked better than others depending upon the phase detector discriminator designs. The one major advantage to radios of this era, before small IF transformers and 7-pin tubes,

I will get some pictures of this table beast, the insides are quite impressive!.

I've never seen one with the factory table, but I own one and used to have 2. They work very nicely even on FM which is post war band only on the ones I've seen. They're AM, FM, SW radios. The minty one I kept came as a pair with an equally nice 41 Philco Philco table model for $50 at a Waukesha garage sale about 20 years ago.

The second one that I ended up selling was from Dieseljeeps estate... It had some pushbutton caps mine was missing and a better dial scale, was a good bit rougher stuck around the estate until the final clean-out and was cheap so I bought it stuck the best parts on mine, gave it a slap on the back recap and sold it for a profit on what I bid on it.

Looks like your missing all the transparent button caps and the labels. Those buttons have off, the 3 bands and several station presets so at least 4 of the labels matter.

With the size of the table I wonder if it was originally meant for a TV. The FM1000 detector tube is its own interesting thing.

Another Philco table. 14x14" holding my turntable. Vinyl fits fine but this may be before vinyl. Decal is on the back side.
