1927 Arborphone working
 

This weekend I have been working on constructing a power supply for this 1927 Arborphone. The supply provides 90 and 22.5 v. B+ and 6-volt A supplies. The radio uses all 01A tubes. This photo shows the power supply, the Arborphone, and an RCA Radiola speaker I got at a pawnshop in Alamogordo, N.M.
The yellow light on the supply indicates 110 AC, the green for 90-v dc and the red for 6 volt filament. We have been able to get all our local stations well on the radio--it's built like a tank!

Ultra cool! It's a shame so many of these types of radios were thrown out, where they rusted away to nothing. Glad to see one that was brought back to life!

Alamogordo? The tubes aren't the only things on that Formica desk that glow. The whole notion of what our army pulled there is no less frightening six decades later.
