ok,so i didnt end up getting that last set i was wanting..anyone think this'd be a good one to snag?

That's an interesting set - it's a Sylvania Halo-Lite set. That white trim around the tube has a flourescent light in it. Sylvania's gimmick at the time was that this made it easier on the eyes, to have the picture surrounded by a dim light. Not seen one of these in person, but it should be an interesting restoration, and the light makes it something a little more unusual than just a nice looking console. It looks like the set is in good shape, a little dirty, but it looks pretty original. Hard to say anything about the electronics, since there isn't a picture, but at least it's in good cosmetic shape.

My Grandparents have a mid 60's rectagular color CRT halolight cobo in the basement. I have yet to feel compelled to fish it out. It may take four folks to lift it and drag it up the stairs. :D I know it is not going anywhere fast. :smoke:

no,i didnt know that it was a ' 54 model!well,sadly,THIS seller (much like the others i've contacted) wont tell me specific info about the set or IF there is an option of shipping or how long a pickup trip would take,so i'd LOVE this set,but i guess it's just not meant to be :( oh well..i'll just keep my fingers crossed that something good will come along.thanks for all the info and help,guys

Are you sure it's a halolight? I thought this feature died-out before color became widespread. If so, it might be very rare!

Tom Genova's TV History site has a 1956 Sylvania brochure showing the Halolight models then available, plus an explanation of how Halolight works.

By "widespread", I was thinking early/mid 60s. For a rectangular set, it would have to be at least from 1965. Either way, sounds cool. :thmbsp:

My Grandparents set is a halolight rectangular color set. I do not have a picture of it. It will have to wait till spring to get a shot. Mt Grandparents are Wintering in Florida.

I don't think I can wait that long. I never knew they made ANY color halolights! Couldn't you just break in and snap a picture? :D

A rectangular color set would seem to indicate that they also made Halolight ROUNDIES????

I am 900 miles from the set. It will have to wait till Spring. I tried to get the set but my Grandfather is very attatched to it. The radio and record player are still in use. The Tv comes on and shows a raster. It will need some work though. He wants me to get it working for him again.

What was that Plymouth product in front of the Mack plant?
