Can anyone identify this set?

It is on Ebay (not the set, just a mouse pad with the picture).

Steve,

Looks like maybe one of the FT receivers from '53. There was a fellow showed up at the AWA Rochester meet a few years ago with a set that looked a lot like this (from my memory). I only saw the back of it in his van. I cannot remember the manufacturer now.

It looks like a 21 inch tube - it has magnetic convergence. Could be a 19 inch CBS tube, though.

Steve,

Why yes I guess it must be (does have magnetic convergence). I cannot see the ultor connector though even after I've cleaned my glasses. :) Hmmm. Mystery set.

I'm not totally sure, but it looks a lot like a TV I saw in a book many years ago. The book said it was a CBS-Columbia color set, don't remember the model number.

Looks like the back of a TV set to me ;)

It's a CBS Columbia!

Hi Steve,
This is for sure a CBS Columbia "205" 19" color receiver. The picture is from a CBS Columbia 2 page ad. It appeared in Life mag. Oct. 18, 1954. The opposite page had a picture of the front of the set. On the screen was a color picture from the Ed Sullivan show. The original ad had a "CBS Columbia" tag hanging from a push pin that can be seen above the high voltage cage. A very classy ad.

Steve,

Just some additional info. on the CBS color set. Not to overkill the subject.
:uzi: The Model # is 360 and the set sold for $1100.00. Erich said in his reply that he remembered seeing the set pictured in a magazine or book. The ad picture of the front of the set was also the cover of the winter 1997 issue of "Invention & Technology" magazine. The back of the set, pictured on the mouse pad was on the back cover. This issue featured an in depth article on the "color war". CBS vs. RCA. Good reading.

Nice plywood.

..and look at that plywood! Hasn't delaminated in 49 years. The crap they make today delaminates while you try to make something out of it! Crap I tell you! I HATE trying to work with plywood nowadays. :(

Off my (not made of plywood) soapbox now.

SteveD. Thanx for the info. I'd love to get copies of those two magazines you mentioned.

In addition to the plywood not rotting after all these years, It's kinda neat the way the inside of the set glows. Makes me want to watch the inside, not the outside, of the set. I'd like to also find out what they treated the thing with to keep it looking so good after all these years! (HA!)
