Regency Scanner

I have a Regency modelACT20/6 police/fire scanner and have a few questions:1.How old is it?2.When did the company go out of buisiness.and 3.Is it solid state or tube. Thanks

I can't find a listing for that particular model but I'd say late 70s or 1980s. Would be solid state. IIRC, Regency sold out to Uniden in the late 80s or early 90s. A successor to the Regency company is/was known as RELM. I don't know if they are still around or not.

Thanks Bgadow,I suspected it was from the mid-to-late '70's because it does pick-up cell-phone conversations from time to time.I picked it up a garage sale for $5 and it is a great scanner with good range.

Your scanner is from the early 70's....by the mid 70's synthesized scanners were being sold....the first one was the Touch 16 by Regency. When Uniden bought most of the company, Relm was formed to continue the business radio side of the company. This organization is now located in Florida. They also sold load management equipment to utilities, and this area became Regency Technologies, and exists at the same basic location as Regency Electronics, at 7707 Records Street, on the east side of Indianapolis.
