RCA Victor Tube Radio M# 9-X-571
 

Ive been meaning to post a picture or two of this radio for months. So here you go. Its a RCA Victor Model 9-X-571. I found it at a small estate sale back in '89. I spoke with the original owner and he thought it was made in '47. He was proud to say it still worked fine after all those years so we plugged it in and sure enough it did.
I just stored it, only plugged it in a couple of times to "impress" friends.
Anyway, I just thought someone might enjoy seeing it or know something about it.

According to "Collector's Guide to Antique Radios", it was made in 1950. It looks like it's in nice condition!

Thanks FD, I would like to use it but I thing Im going to get someone to look at it before I do. TOOOOOO many projects.
Now that I have It out of storage Im going to clean it up real well for display. I think it looks pretty cool.

Yeah, real nice looks, Ron. Very early '50s "Machine Age" look to it. Doesn't that one have the "RCA Golden Throat" logo on the back? Strikes me it's one of those.

Might be a good idea to get the schematic and replace the electrolytic caps in it. Unless they have already been done, think ticking bomb.

Replace all of the wax paper caps. See my page http://www.geocities.com/wa2ise/radios/repair.htm for more info. Also Phil has a good page at http://www.antiqueradio.org/recap.htm though I would not try to remove all of the old caps' leads from terminals, tube sockets or switches (they are rather fragile and easily broken). Just clip off the old lead at the terminal and solder the new on onto the terminal. Do one cap at a time (remove a cap and immediately install its replacement) so you don't forget where it connects to.

They look nice paired up with one of the RCA 45rpm only record changers also. Theres an audio input jack on the back where you can plug a changer into. Like the gang said, it would be wise to recap the radio for daily use and to keep in good playable condition. These are good radios and you will get many hours of listening enjoyment out of it.
