Big tube type car radio find
 

We found a large amount of old car radios in a barn yesterday, many of them are tube types. Some of the most interesting are the Fords with the round dials. What kind of car would these have been used on?

If there are any 8 track models you may find that they're valuable...same thing with any factory original FM stereo units.

The one on the bottom shelf with the small round dial is from a Ford Pickup of the 1957-1960 era, as best I can tell they are about as rare as hens teeth. It uses low potential tubes and has transistor output. There are probably a lot of F-100 guys that would like to have it....

The one on the middle shelf on the right at the bottom of the stack may very well be a mid 60's Cadillac, and it appears to have Wonderbar tuning.....my first car was a '66 Caddy with this feature, and it scared the crap out of me when my foot hit the hidden search button under the carpet (near the high beam switch) and the radio started scanning!

From what I can barely see, it's probably an AM unit as the dial numbers look like that. I read somewhere that Caddys in particular had some of the nicest sounding FM stereo factory radios at the time as the feller in charge was an audiophile.

Yeah, my '67 Lincoln pervertable has "Wunderbar" tuning-you stomp on a switch next to the headlight dimmer, & it goes up to the next station. Even has a power antenna, & is AM/FM, a rarity in antebellum '67. The '69 Lincoln is just AM-and you have to find a '68-'69 Lincoln radio if you wanna change-both knobs are on the same side those years. One of Ford's "Better Ideas", I guess.-Sandy G.

I recognize the two oval-windowed ones on the center shelf from '60-'64 Falcons and Comets for sure... perhaps even early Mustangs?...

The oval dialed ones were originally installed in the 57 Fords and were used in a lot of Ford products up to around 1963....

Bottom shelf with the two knobs on the left is a Plymouth radio. Would love to own it if you're willing to sell :)

Aha. Thanx. :thmbsp: I recognized it because I owned a '63 Falcon at one time and the earliest were all the same basic ones, and Mustangs were just Falcons with good looking bodies. Now that you mention it, now I recall my Dad test-driving a '57 Ranchero once :scratch2: with a radio like that.
