What's your favorite process for polishing Bakeolite?

I've got a large Bakeolite cabinet that could use a good shining up but I'm not quite sure how to or what to use. I've read that it's easy to damage/discolor if you use the wrong products. So I'm open to some sage advice.

Magnolia Glayzit telephone refinisher is a polish that comes in an aerosol can and is very good on bakelite.

(The manufacturer...they sell by the case only, though.)

I go over Bakelite stuff w/a good polishing compound-this takes off the dead, oxidised layer-it then looks like hell-but then I'll go over it a time or 2 w/a good carnauba wax, I use Meguier's,this will give it a soft, warm "glowing" look. Of course, your mileage may vary-always try on an inconspiuous place before going "whole hog".-Sandy G.

I've used a high speed buffing wheel with great sucess. Takes a minute.

Although, make sure the cabinet's held down securely or the speed and pressure of the buffer will zing the cabinet off the table, and it will hit against the wall and shatter in a million pieces.

Don't ask how I know

Glayzit's good, Blue Magic is good, but the B.O.A.R.D. (Brotherhood Of Antique Radio Dudes) endorses Brasso, followed by clear paste wax.
