On eBay: "Vintage antique RCA Radio - Phonograph -TV 1940s RARE" (Item #6248387654)
You've just gotta love these optimists  The seller says: "The picture tube lit up, but in the front i saw no light... ...I think it needs gas of some sort..." Must be a VERY rare model! |
No, not rare at all! Heck, Just the other day my Zenith Chromacolor was jittering horizontally, and it was just low on hydraulic fluid in the beam swinger. You know; it started getting air bubbles and made the hydraulic ram shudder as the beam swinger was going back & forth. And let's not forget how Steve D's CTC-5 got low on lighter fluid in May and the pilot light in the channel window went out :lmao:

Do you need different fittings for different gases or is it a one fits all deal?
|
I'd convert it to Propane!
|
I would avoid propane since it's falmmable. I would either use bottled nitrogen or R-410A (Puron).
|
"I'm so stupid, I'm oh so stupid..." Oh, Prunella ! <grin>-Sandy G.

dont laugh.i once serviced a small sony portable that ran from a tiny honda generator.
had to bring in some gasoline to the shop to test run it. took a small bottle and funnel to the gas station and got a few ounces. cashier joked that they were out of rags.got a real funny look when i told her it was to test a tv set! |

My set is so old it's kerosene powered. Every so often I have to take off the back and make sure all the wicks are lit.....
|
The problem with a gas-powered TV is, every time someone opens the door, the pilot light gets blown out.

I converted mine from standing pilot to hot surface ignition. |
