Hotpoint 9 S 102

I finally got a good CRT for this set! :)
I bought the two GEs from JerryR (Thank you Jerry!) and they both had excellent CRTs, one was basically a parts set so the tube went into this already recapped set. I thought I'd post some picture showing just how basic these sets are. Compared to the RCA competition these were throwaways! Built in late 1956 I imagine a lot of them were Christmas presents for the kiddys. Amazingly this set is rock solid stable, turn it on and forget it, it's still using the original filter and rectifier too. It uses a bunch (by bunch I mean only 12 not counting the CRT :D ) of oddball tubes such as 10C8, 17H3, 18A5, 9U8, all appear to be original to this set with build dates of 56-48 (Nov 1956) Here's some photos: |

I almost forgot, I found some original TV covers from the 50's on eBay, they have shrunk up a little after 49+ years but still do the job.

Speaking of...
When I was growing up, friends of mine had a Hotpoint refrigerator and a Coldspot stove... :scratch2: |

Never seen a TV cozy like that. Kinda makes it look like a big toaster!

I don't get the idea of a cover, unless it was to store the set in the winter (or during the week) and drag it out to the patio in the summer (or onthe weekend)??
