Pickin up a roundie tomorrow
 

....from my ad in the local paper. It's been in a otal of two days and already I'm scoring a '61-'62 (or so they claim) RCA roundie from the original owners! :cool:

I'll post pics tomorrow when it comes home.

My ad reads:

Old round-screen color televisions wanted, working or not. Must have round picture tube. Call...........

Last time I ran the ad I scored 5 of them in 2 weeks, along with a whole treasure trove of B&W sets, including a Locomotive GE, an unusual Stromberg Carlson, and about half a dozen others.

C'mon guys! Time to go fishin! Run your ads and let's see what you find!

I've had an ad posted for some time now but not much in the way of results; maybe I need to spec a round picture tube instead of '50's - '60's color TV's. I did post in a club publication and got my CTC-7 in exchange for a little Crosley 51 battery set. After 10+ years, figured I'd had it long enough. That awful painted-on woodgrain (the Anderson). Think I'm going to re-veneer in limed oak (oak veneer w/a white wash), not original, sure, but in keeping with that 50's look. Chassis is recapped except for electrolytics and it's on the kitchen table 'cooking' on a Variac now (with the HO cap pulled).

At last count i have over 30 tv's including four Predicta's but otherwise round tube b/w sets. I do have one round tube color set (CTC12) which is in a tv/stereo combo unit made by RCA. Its a big beast but near mint. I also have a Zenith porthole combo and another b/w one by RCA. I also have several electrostatic sets. I hope to post pictures soon so i can share my collection with the rest of you. I'm going to try the ad thing here locally and see if i can pick up another round tube color set. You know how it is...its like Lay's potato chips...you cant stop at one :D

Welcome to the AK Vintage TV forums. How about sharing pics of your round screen B&W sets over in the B&W vintage forum? I've focused my collection on those and the round color sets too! I have a few of the ES sets also.

i also posted an ad. early color and black&white from the 50,s
hell these people around here dont even know their own age.
had a lot of calls. asked them how old the sets are and if they had round tubes. they all said yes. well the oldest i found was 1976. steve

Well, here she is.....Rob and I ID'd it as a CTC-16. Pretty nice shape too! Powers up, has sound, but no vertical sweep. Not a bad deal. All it needs is a lot of cleaning from sitting in a house with years of smoke. It was stored in an upstairs spare room rather than a musty basement.

Wow, good score! Your's looks great and that picture sure turned out nice. You should be a photographer!

Here is the same model I have but mine came without a UHF tuner so I date mine as very early '64 (CTC-16A). The FCC mandate that ALL TV sets have UHF tuners became law in mid '64. Mine came without legs as it was used as a tabletop set. I made my own from coffee table legs from a thrift shop. I like yours in gold better. Mine has some spooge between the safety glass and the 21FBP22 from the grease used on the surround gasket creeping along the in-between surfaces. Someday I'll take the CRT out and clean it. Mine works and has only had the back off once to peek upon acquisition some 3 years ago.
