Am I correct that this was the company which consolidated their operations into a plant in the northeast, & in doing so discontinued this type of rebuild? There seemed to be a couple rebuilders in Texas but I'm not sure...

That is the same company. I placed two CRTs to be rebuilt at my house in Texas. I drug my feet getting them up to Video Display. So, I lost out on the rebuild. Maybe they had a change of heart?

As far as I know, Hawkeye in Des Moines is the only place left.

This is not just affecting CRT re-builders-see below:

(06/30/2005 7:19 AM EDT)

LONDON — Sony is to close two South Wales manufacturing facilities. The ceasing of CRT manufacturing in Bridgend will result in 400 job losses with a further 250 job losses at the Pencoed TV assembly factory.
A workforce of 300 will be retained at Pencoed to focus on production of circuited boards for flat-screen televisions which are made in Barcelona and broadcast cameras. It will also maintain its logistics and customer support centre functions.

In January 300 staff were made redundant at the Bridgend plant which Sony set up in 1973 and at their peak more than 4,000 were employed at its two factories. The Pencoed plant opened in 1992.

Sony has blamed the decision on spiralling consumer demand for flat-screen televisions. Sony is also closing a Spanish CRT manufacturing facility in Barcelona and CRT production in Europe will now be concentrated in Slovakia

Anybody have any connections in Slovakia? :D

I think the increased demand is for LCD & Plasma sets not CRT.
Last time I was at Beast Buy all the CRT stuff had been put in the side area, the main display area was all LCD and Plasma sets.

I'm afraid the days of the CRT are numbered! :worried:
