Two RCA 630TS questions
 

I've started recapping my 630TS and naturally you find interesting things along the way. Here's a photo for reference.

I shows the base of V128, the 5V4 reaction scanning tube, and L201, the horizontal linearity coil.

Question 1. It looks like there may have been arcing from the pin 2 lead to the chassis. Yes? I put a lick of tape around it until I finish recapping, but if I have to replace the lead, what's a good source?

Question 2. The wax on this coil and most others is bubbled. Anything to worry about? I don't care if it looks fugly. But if something needs to be done . . . what? I had an idea about putting a tinfoil cone shield around the coil and gently melting the wax with a heat gun. Or, maybe you could remove it and dip in a pot of melted wax, but I don't like to disturb fragile little coils unless really necessary.

For the wire in question, I would just use good ole hookup wire. As for the coil, there is a possibility that it may have overheated. Then again, they could have been sloppy in making the coil. Don't worry about the wax on the coil for now. Recap the set and see how it performs.

Heat shrink tubing is good to use too as additional insulation on old wires especially like wires on a transformer that can't be replaced.

I also vote for leaving the coils alone. Best not to touch them unless there is a good reason to do so. Remember if they get damaged they will be very hard to find replacments for. If you have to adjust them make sure you use the correct tools it is very easy to break the cores.
