Raytheon working!
 

I posted about this set back when I got it but the pictures were lost in the Server crash.

This set was a Mouse house for a while and the choke and vert output transformer had been eaten.

I replaced the damaged transformers with new ones from Moyers and spent the last week recapping it.

I did the filters first and a few paper caps in the horizontal section and that got it running but with a really unstable, weak picture.

I replaced the rest of the paper caps this afternoon and after I was done I had NO picture, just a raster and sound. :sigh: Somehow I had managed to damage two of the peaking coils attached to the video output tube (12AT7)

I repaired the coils and this thing has an astonishingly good picture! :D

There's a slight drive line on the left side of the picture that'll need looking at but overall I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Still have to refinish the cabinet :sigh: a job I hate!

Here's a pic with it playing a DVD of 101 Dalmations.

That's great work Eric! That is possibly the sharpest pic I've seen on a vintage set yet.

That really IS a great picture. What was your source? (DVD, VCR, CABLE ect).

Nice job! Give us a photo of it back in its cabinet when your are done with it.

John, the source is a DVD running through a modulator set to channel 3.

The tuner on this set is a continuous type but not the Dumont type.
It seems to be very sensitive and was pulling in L.A. stations from 70 miles away without any antenna attached other than the coax to the modulator.

I want to get the cabinet done and finish it up :yes:

One other thing is I'm not sure the set was actually a Raytheon. The chassis is for sure but the cabinet has no branding on it anywhere! the finish was original and it didn't look like there had ever been any brand decals.

Here's a pic of the cab too, it's slightly trapezoidal but the angle of the picture doesn't show it.

A very nice picture, indeed! Does it use a 10BP4 CRT by any chance? My Hallicrafters T-67 has a pretty good picture, too -- or at least it did until the horizontal fritzed out (my Achilles heel).

Hi. Good picture, indeed. Looks like it could either be some flovor of Ariline, or Silbertone, both which used different companiy gutts because they didn't make their own sets. I have the remains of a 12" table top Airline in a nifty case that is the same Raythion chassis as yours..Rayetheon, back then, tended to make their pictures port hole, like Zenith, but, The Airline I had is Double D like the one you have Diffeerenc is They used the 12" tube on my set, but, masked it down to roughly 6.5"x 10". Beutiful style case, cheap set... Bill :yes:

Bill, yes, it could be something like an Airline, or some other store brand, I may never know unless I happen across an old ad somewhere.

Almost done recapping. All that's left is the ugly handful of paper caps buried way down in a corner under the RF tubes.

I'd just "cheat" and "J" hook the replacements in. To avoid detuning any alignment of the RF circuits in the area. And to avoid massive disassembly, which would also detune the alighment. Of course try to be neat about it, and try to get the lead dress like before.
