Mechanical TV on eBay
Mechanical tv on eBay at auction house in Germany. Not sure if its an original Baird TV kit? The tube doesn't look like a neon tube?

Don't look to me like it's all there...but OTOH, I ain't never seen one before, either...But I smell a mouse...

An 18 volt battery? Must be a German thing. Although there are photos which show Baird working with some ridiculously crude-looking gear, I don't think he had anything to do with the . . . piece . . . in this auction. It hardly looks like it was ever even meant to work.

Homebrew? The disk looks like something cut out of sheet aluminum with a coping saw.

Here is the ebay set alongside the same view of a real Televisor. Guess which one is which.
It looks like a homebrew made to fit a Televisor cabinet. Dave A |
Maybe not even made to fit a Baird cabinet. Looks like just a homebrew for the Baird standard. Looks like an incandescent lamp in place of the neon.
18 volts is a strange number for the motor. Also, there doesn't appear to be a phonic syncronizing device on it. If this set was sold in the US it would probably bring around $1k. It will be interesting to see what it brings in Europe. |
