Motorola portable

I bought this cute and old portable today. Guess it isn't much special as radioctive showed me one on ebay that didn't even get a bid on it. Thiat
is ok by me as I like it and a second working tubie was tossed in. I don't think I will find a battery for this rascal. :D

Awwww! It's a cutie! :) I had a GE radio like that when I was a kid. Used to listen to WLS in Chicago on it. Had two 4" alnico speakers as I recall. I also remember coming home from school one day to find that my oldest brother had gutted it for parts! :gigglemad

Yep, that sounds just like this GE. Too bad it is missing the volume knob.
The electrical supply in Berkeley has a couple boxes of old knobs, mostly TV I think, but maybe I will get lucky. It will clean up nicely and all the gold trim is there and not worn. Case just needs a polishing.

Oh, that wasn't all he gutted for parts. Two of my record players...Mom's radio...the family's Imperial tube integrated amp. Sheesh. And there was a wholesale electronics warehouse just two blocks from our house! Cheap bastard I guess. :D

Carl, I can't tell from the pic, is that a wire running next to the hinges? Also, it looks like it shuts off when you close the lid. Very nice looking.

Yeh, Carl, that IS a cute l'il guy ! The other one isn't anything special, but might make a nice workshop/garage/"Throne Room" set...

The antenna is in the used to be spring loaded lid. You lift on the emblem to release the front latch and it turns on/off with opening and closing the lid.
Sandy if I can find a matching knob the GE could look like brand new. Nothing special sure but a nice example for a shelf or something.

Carl, Cool radios! I'm pretty sure I have a knob for that GE. If I come up with it, would you like me to send it to you?

I wonder if you could make up a 63 volt battery from 9 volt batteries in series...this should work as the "B" voltage if you could fit the 9 volts in the case. You may even be able to get away with less B voltage but you may have to experiment. Also I think 2 "D" cells should do for the "A" supply.
