"Bond" Television?
 

Does anyone have any info on this set? It's not mine I'm just trying to find out something about it for it's owner.

Chassis looks like it might be an Olympic or Tele-Tone, name plate says "Bond Television" possibly a custom job or store brand??

You know this reminds me of the time I researched an old phonograph...It was made by RCA but had a differernt name. I was told they often did that for export models, so the Tv may be an export! In some cases the parts may have been made in the US and purchased by a foriegn country, much like we do with China today.

I'll throw in a guess: since you're in SoCal, there may have been a "Bond TV" dealer/repair store or chain. Possibly they did custom jobs for their more affluent clients. An old business directory might provide a lead. COOL set, nonetheless.

Retail store chains often rebrand TVs with their own names (house brands), or at least they used to (now most foreign-made sets are branded with the names of former American TV makers like RCA, GE, Sylvania, et al.) even though the set itself was almost certainly manufactured offshore. I bought a small 12" b&w TV in 1975 from a retail store in suburban Cleveland, the now-defunct Kennedy and Cohen retail chain (which went out of business some time in the early 1980s, IIRC). The TV was branded "Kenco", but, if I were a betting man (I'm not), I would be willing to bet the chassis (tube type, all on one large PC board except for the tuners and control cluster) was made overseas. In fact, I believe this set was actually made by a company, now defunct, called Broadmoor. (The set worked well for three years, however, then burned up.) The "Bond" television under discussion here sounds very much to me like it's a rebranded set as well.

I'm not sure where this set is located but the E-mail address is from Michigan.

I, too, was contacted by the owner, and gave him much the same advice -- possibly a "store brand" or a custom cabinet.

I suggested that, if he knows the original area of sale, he contact the reference desk at that public library for help in finding old business directories, city directories, etc., something with the name Bond. I'm married to a former reference librarian and I know that they love interesting questions like this, as a break from answering questions from whiny teenagers needing homework help.

It's cool to have an oddball or very scarce item . . . unless you want a schematic and can't identify the chassis. I'm still trying to identify the chassis in my Scott 800B6 combo:

I was thinking maybe some connection to Bond batteries (part of Olin Chemical/Winchester Arms) but they had a distinctive octagonal trademark which I think would have been used here. No listing for Bond in the EIA lists I have.
