CD marks on old Zeniths (H511 series)
 

Hi all -

I've looked at a lot of photos on the Web of Zenith's H511 series of AM radios, which date back to 1951. I have also noticed that the later versions of this receiver (1955 or so), including one version with very large knobs and a handle, have the old Civil Defense (Conelrad) markings on the dial at 640 and 1240 KHz, whereas the very early H511s (including mine) do not. Why is this? Since the Korean War began in 1950, I would think all radios from all manufacturers of that period, with no exceptions, would have the CD icons on their dials--I think it was Federal law at the time. Was the omission of the CD indicators on the early-1950s H511s an oversight on the part of Zenith?

The Conelrad system was begun in the mid fifties. It was not in use during the Korean war.
