Intro and a quick Q
All,
First off, excellent site you have here ! Im just getting into the whole antique radio world, but I've been nuts about tube items for quite some time. In any event, I picked up an old Stewart Warner Radio/Phonograph a couple of days ago with the intent on an resto. I have ordered up new caps, along with a new output tube (as the one in there was shot...) and new rectifier for good measure (not knowing how long they used it with a crapped out output tube...). In the meantime, Im looking for some information on the record player...Its obviously not the original (as the previous owner put in a plate to hold this new one in), but I believe it isn't a bad unit. Plugging it in directly, the motor works, etc, so for the time being, I'll keep it. However, I do need a new needle (but Im pretty sure the cartrage is fine)...Any suggestions on where I can source one ? Also, if anyone has any idea as to what the original phonograph was, can you please let me know ? I'd be interested in seeing if I could completely 'restore' this unit. And, for the pics: http://static.flickr.com/107/316575227_b869f67826_o.jpg http://static.flickr.com/116/316575231_a8599f93b3_o.jpg http://static.flickr.com/105/316575237_57878a2a82_o.jpg http://static.flickr.com/117/316575236_3200d4a8e3_o.jpg Thanks ! The output tube may have been the victim of a leaky coupling cap - the paper caps are ALL leaky, trust me. If you haven't found it yet, there's a schematic at http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByM...8/M0020188.pdf

Thanks Tom. I did find the schematic; and I was able to order up all the caps (obviously I won't replace the mica's if I don't have to). We'll see how things turn out next week when everything arrives.
Thanks again, Steve |
