What goes around

Isn't it ironic that some of these sets are now selling for more than they did when originally manufactured. Where is that time machine when I need it?

Over 8 grand for a 1954 color set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That set is an exception. A factory prototype, with hand-written notes from the engineers, etc.

I sent my wife a pointer to that auction, just for fun. She replied, "Sheesh, you better take more photos of your stuff in case you're killed -- we might be sitting on a goldmine!"

I explained that my ratty unrestored CTC-11 in the garage is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks at best . . . certainly not several thousand.

If your were investing in old electronic gear, the Fada Bullet radio(or other Catalin radio) would have done far better. These went for something like $20 new, and now go for well over $1000.

I have a bakelite model with the same chassis as the Bullet, only worth $50 or so-darn.

I'll always kick myself for not paying, out at the flea market, $100 for a perfect FADA bullet back in the mid-80s. But then, I was just a kid & would have had a hard time explaining to my parents that this was a wise investment!

:yikes: I got my KV-4000 for $69.95 BIN a couple years ago!! With the original box!

A zenith stratosphere would probably be a good one to put in your time machine too.

Catalin prices have drooped in the radio world. Too many dealers read too many articles about Catalin and paid too much. Don't repeat their mistakes.

If you have money to invest, check out some nice bonds or indexed mutual funds. Much more reliable return, and they won't break if you drop 'em!

I have to agree with Phil on investments. My radios/tvs area hobby, not an investment.
