I will never ever ever buy another set with a record changer, ever...
Well, now that I said that I'll probably be hauling one home tomarrow, I only have one other combo set, and I am very happy the record changer already works. It coulds use a needle though.
When I first got this set, I pulled out that rubber disc that activates the record changing mechanism, and just used it manually. But I decided now was the time to fix it.
This thing was taken apart before, and not quite put back like it should have been, and some of the metal rods down there were slightly bent out of position. Luckily, I had the turntable out of the set I pulled the CRT out of as a guide, the rod that goes up the center of the record was bent on that one, so a direct swap was not possible, but between the two, I almost have one working now. I just have to get the record to drop, then I have it, the proper bits are moving just not quite enough, I'm sure after a bit of tweaking I will have it by later tonight.
This is my first experience trying to fix a record changer, up till now I always just took that disc out and used them manually, maybe it's usually easier than this, but if this is a record changer I don't even want to think about fixing a jukebox.
Anyone know where can I get replacement needles, that Philco I have needs one and this one could benefit from a new needle as well.
And unit actualy sounds not too bad now that I changed the output tubes, I thought it just wasn't that good of a unit, but it turned out that those 6BQ5's were almost gone, changed them and it made a huge difference.
