As to listening to TV and radio at the same time: back before multiplex stereo TV, some musical shows were simulcast with one stereo channel on radio and the other on TV. Not many TV's would have been set up for this: mere mortals would have just used a separate radio set up for the other channel.
Same deal on radio with pre-multiplex FM stereo: in the late 50's, some stations that had both AM and FM outlets experimented with stereo broadcasts, one channel on the FM transmitter and the other on the AM. I remember setting up two radios to pick it up.
