Once is all it takes to possibly do serious damage to important and VERY hard to find parts (flyback, power transformer, etc.).
We have all done this at some point though. You definately should replace all paper and electrolytic
capacitors as these are most likely dried out. Shortly after I began collecting t.v.s I blew the transformer in a beautiful Dumont console.
