2AV2 is a later design tube than 1V2...I don't know what the improvements are in the 2AV2 over the 1V2 but some makes like RCA used the 2AV2 in later models. I think if it works it would be OK to leave it alone...the lower filament voltage will help it last longer. Only thing I would not do is to install a 1V2 in a set designed for a 2AV2 as the filament voltage might be excessive.

2 horizontal output tubes splits up the load and puts less strain on the tubes. Admiral often used a low B+ in their sets, around 280 volts, whereas RCA for example used about 420 or so volt maximum B+. Consequently in the Admiral you've got to have more current to get the same horizontal output power because the voltage is lower. At the time this set was made, there probably did not exist a single h.o. tube that could have handled the high current.

Later Admiral sets used a 6KD6 which I think can handle the higher current demands (around 280-300 ma if I remember correctly, as opposed to about 190-200 ma for the 6JE6 in the higher B+ RCA sets).
