It is not as bad as you think. This photo was enriched with contrast to make it more visible. I have created a Wikipedia article with an actual ion burn photo (with normal contrast):

But with moving images you don't see the ion burn after a while. See this photo from the same tv set:

Who can make more photos from ion burns on the screen? I want to compare these to see whether they look similar or not.
