If you'd like to see the Plexiglas TRK working, just take a quick trip up to the MZTV Museum in Toronto.
On my trip up in 2005, the set was in a special area, where you could almost touch the set. A beauty--you'd be surprised how nice a 1939 TV looks, when you can see the electrons bouncing about inside!
