I've read instructions for testing a crt with a multimeter (or maybe VTVM) but it was kinda complicated.

I'd agree that this Admiral would be a great one to start with. Straightforward.

This set probably uses a lot of black beauty caps. Often called bumble bees-they are marked with colored stripes, similiar to resistors, instead of having the values printed on them. For the longest time I mistook them for big resistors, and I don't think I'm the only one! Helpful to have the Sams when replacing them since they're not always easy to decode. You should save the old bb caps-people have been known to pay good money for them on ebay!
