Or he might have gotten nothing for it, if they believed it had no value and had no quick way to research it.
About 12 years ago, I rescued a little old CRT from the "free" pile at a garage sale. I knew little about TVs at the time, but just didn't want them to throw it away. The type number -- 5TP4 -- meant nothing to me.
I later learned that 5TP4 CRTs are in demand by collectors of 1940s projection TVs. I ultimately traded that CRT for a complete television.
