Update: I just subbed a focus assembly from a slightly earlier 10" Philco model - with no improvement - best focus setting still max CW. I had restored that chassis and then put it on the shelf. I recall no focus problem when I was working on that one. I only remember an excellent picture. It's not convenient to fire it up right now but I did check the position of the focus control and it was very low - not quite fully CCW.
