Introduction/My Collection/New Scores!
Hello!
I've been a lurker around here for a while now. I've posted a few times in the TV section, but this is my first in the radio area.
I just wanted to introduce myself, and show some of what I have.
I am a 26 year old Locomotive Engineer from Wisconsin.
I started tinkering with tube radios when I was in 5th or 6th grade. When I graduated high school, and went to college, I had over 100 tube radios of all different shapes and sizes. I've always been partial to Zenith, but like them all.
When I graduated high school, sadly, I didn't have room for the radios anymore. I sold what I could, gave away what people would take, and finally took the rest to the dump.... Boy I kick myself for that...
About a year ago I suddenly had the itch to get started again. To my surprise, the tube radios that I used to buy for 2 or 3 bucks now cost upwards of 20 dollars! Nevertheless, I started my collection again... This time including some televisions.
I thought I would share some of my favorites in my collection.
I just scored the small RCA and the pink Zenith today. I paid WAY too much for the Zenith... but that radio spoke to me as I walked by it... I just HAD to have it.
Since I am home from work recovering from Wisdom Teeth removal surgery, I thought what a great time to replace some caps! I recapped the RCA and the Zenith in about an hour. They both work and sound great. All the tubes, as typical, were fine. Both I didn't power up the zenith before I recapped it, but I did try the RCA. The RCA buzzed like horrible, and I wasn't able to tune anything it. Now it sounds great for a little cheap radio.
I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thanks for all of the information you have given me so far. I truly appreciate it.
