So many acronyms! I have a Sharp cassette deck with an "APSS". You push the APSS button and the FF together at the same time, or the APSS and the REW buttons together. Then it goes either to the start of the next song, or the beginning of the current song (it looks for silent passages on the tape)
My Sharp video recorder had APLD, which finds points on the tape where you pressed 'pause' during the recording. It did that by recording a very low frequency 'rumble' on the linear audio track - inaudible on a TV set, but cerrainly audible when used with an amp & good speakers.
