You may be on to one good reason there. I knew a fellow 10 years ago who had a junky old car he had to sell 'cause he was flat broke and trying to finish grad school. The car was worth - MAYBE - a hundred dollars. But he was offered
many times that from a person buying up props for an upcoming Hollywood movie that needed exactly that type of vehicle. I'm pretty sure it was driven by Denzel Washington in "The Hurricane." Cheap from their perspective, I guess. If someone needs a vintage TV as a movie prop, what's a few hundred dollars one way or the other? Still cheaper than building something from scratch. What doesn't make sense is that unless the starting bid was high, you'd have to have two bidders for it to get silly like that, so who knows? I can think of a few things that, in hindsight, I got kinda carried away on!
