If the buttons worked before and nothing is broken, it should still be OK. Look carefully at the buttons that lock and note how locking takes place. Then check the non locking ones and see what the difference is. A lot of times it is years of debris built up. Be sure the whole mechanism is clean. You can get CRC Electronic Parts Cleaner at any auto parts store. Then take white lithium grease on a toothpick and sparingly lube the moving parts, keeping the grease well away from the electrical contacts. It ought to come back.
