Something like that happened to me a few months back. Scared the heck out of me. I suspected my vintage radios and TVs at first.
I couldn't track it down until a few hours later my computer display went all wonky. I popped the case and discovered that a tantalum cap on the video card had blown.
I replaced it and it's been running great to this day
