Yeah, I've always felt it's all right to modify a set that's already been ruined. And sometimes they're even past suffering that indignity.
I'm probably getting a little off-topic from vintage TVs here, but I spotted this radio in the recycling depot yesterday. They say "you can't save 'em all" and sometime that's true; this one just looked too far gone to even consider.
