I have a Sparton that is identical to the set pictured in the original post. The only difference is that mine is dark wood and the top corners are more squared off with a sort of crown molding that surrounds the top and runs down the sides. I bought the set at a flea market back around 1983 when a lot of these sets were floating around in second hand stores; or still being used. A middle-aged/older man had the TV at his table where he would watch it nearly all day on Saturday and Sunday while selling his junk. I remember him telling me that he bought the set new and it was his everyday set until he upgraded to color a few years back; now it was just a spare. It was not even for sale, but I believe he thought that it was nice that a teenager would be so facinated by the old set. I think that he let me have it for $15 and it has been in my arsenal ever since. One of my last "working originals" as I call them when they still work with no restoration.
However, I would like to restore the set. I think that it is well worth it after over 50 years of trouble free service. These sets are like mini-Dumonts to me in the beefy way that they are built. I love sets with dual LV and HV (I think)rectifiers....
