Yes, it is a good design. It came with a 6J5GT oscillator tube and I swapped it out for a 6J5 as specified. i.e. swapped a glass tube for metal. That seems to have eliminated some howling I was hearing at times on the SW band.
I fired it up this afternoon and did pick up some stations in the 25 meter band. 31 and 49 meter bands are virtually silent.
