Yup, Mr. Bean apparently liked pushing Reliants off of the road. I just saw that Top Gear as well-the Reliant held up pretty well considering the number of times it was rolled.

I looked into the hand crank starter in 1976-the Ami DID have a starter motor, but it failed enough, and was too wimpy to turn the engine over if it was cold enough outside, that you would have to go over to manual. To reference another episode of Top Gear, where Jeremy was driving a junky British Leyland vehicle, he pointed out something like power windows that also had hand cranks-"see, they knew it would fail, so you can still do it manually as well"
