Hey, I did something kinda like that. Only I came at the problem a different way... I cut the ends off of the TV to fit it in the cabinet
Okay, I should explain... I found a 1950 RCA at the Goodwill outlet last summer. Of course a cabinet with no insides. There they mark items down every few days and what doesn't sell goes in the dumpster, this set was already down to $1 so I knew where it was headed soon. I drug it home and to my surprise my wife actually liked the cabinet style, so I set out to find a newer set to stick inside with the intension to make it look origional from the outside. I found a Sony on Craigslist that had the perfect size screen, just to get it home and find it didn't quite fit. The speakers are on the side and it was just a little too wide. Of course modifying the 1950 cabinet was out of the question, so I took the speakers out of the tv, set it in the front yard, got out the circular saw and "fixed" it

I will be making a 1950-looking mask for it next.
