I began working on VCR's (and camcorders) in about this time frame. After a few years of watching their retail prices drop (with the resulting decline in repair volume) I remember thinking that if HI-FI units would stop their declining retail values at about the $100-150 mark I might be able to retain some "job security".
Ten years later, after HI-FI units started selling for less than $70 and DVD player sales started taking off I had to find a different line of work.
