Their TV channels probably do not match your country's TV channels. Some of Japan's TV channels are on frequencies that are used for FM broadcast radio in the USA (93 to 108MHz FM in USA TV in Japan, 88 to 92 are FM radio in both countries). Also Japan uses NTSC.

My college, Syracuse Univ, had "design" students (a form of art). I was an electrical engineering major (BSEE) and I used to annoy the design majors by telling that I was studying "design" too (in reality circuit design!). And I'd show them some of my designs (circuit schematics). "What the hell is that?!".... One thing was that my "designs" had to follow the laws of physics, but their designs could be anything they said was pretty....
"all transistor"? I think that there's still a tube in that set, the CRT.
