Is it in need of repainting, or just dull? I've had good luck restoring some old boatanchor-style test equipment by spraying WD40 on the finish and wiping it down with a cotton cloth. GE Ham news suggests wiping down with Mineral Oil or 20W/30W oil.

I've also repainted with blue hammertone paint from ACE hardware with outstanding results. 2 light coats, followed by baking in the oven (an old surplus oven used to bake out moisture in aircraft instruments) at 170 degrees for 15 minutes - hard as a rock, and glossy to boot.
