Typically, with good tubes and good components (flyback transformer, yoke, resistors and capacitors), the linearity should be okay. From your earlier posted photos, the linearity did not look too bad to me. Can you outline or show by perhaps with a photo where the linearity is bad?
With the flyback horizontal sweep design, the damper provides the first half (left hand side) of the sweep and the horizontal output the second half (right handside) with the horizontal drive facilitating the best crossover in the middle of the screen. With this in mind, the pursuit of better linearity can be focussed on the particular part of the circuit.
